Six Oklahoma Legislators Receive "Spirit of Enterprise Award"

U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-OK) last week received the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s “Spirit of Enterprise Award” for his support of pro-growth legislation during the 110th Congress. Accepting the award, Inhofe said:

I am honored to receive the ‘Spirit of Enterprise Award’ from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. This organization provides an invaluable service to businesses nationwide. I will continue to fight for legislation that helps grow our nation’s economy, keeping America’s businesses the most competitive in the world.

Dan Boren, the only Democrat in the entire House of Representatives to receive the award, said:

I am honored to receive this award. The small business community, energy industry, and other manufacturers are an integral part of Oklahoma’s economy. I am committed to doing everything I can in Congress to help them grow our economy and create additional jobs in Oklahoma.

Tom Donohue, Chamber president and CEO, stated:

Senator Inhofe has proven to be an effective ally to the business community, supporting legislation that helps grow the economy and creates new jobs for hardworking Americans. The Chamber is grateful for Jim’s commitment to these important issues and is proud to present him with this award.

[...]

Representative Boren has proven to be an effective ally to the business community, supporting legislation that helps grow the economy and creates new jobs for hardworking Americans. The Chamber is grateful for Dan’s commitment to these important issues and is proud to present him with this award.

The Oklahomans who were honored were:

Inhofe Bill to Repeal Damaging Energy Provision

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.), Ranking Member of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee and a senior member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, yesterday introduced legislation repealing section 526 of the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 (EISA) signed into law in December 2007. Section 526 prohibits federal agencies from contracting for nonconventional, or alternative, fuels that emit higher levels of greenhouse gas emissions than "conventional petroleum sources":

I worked to include language in the Energy Policy Act of 2005 recognizing that unconventional fuels such as oil shale and tar sands developed in the U.S. and Canada are strategically important and necessary to develop to reduce the growing dependence of the U.S. on foreign oil imports. Section 526 of the 2007 energy bill, however, prohibits federal agencies from contracting for such fuels.

This misguided provision was surreptitiously inserted into the 2007 energy bill shortly before final passage. Despite the potential enormity of the provision’s consequences, no public hearings, discourse, or examination occurred before its inclusion. The scope of fuels that could be prohibited is left wide-open to interpretation, including fuels such as Canadian oil sands, E85 ethanol, and coal- and natural gas-to-liquids fuel, which has powered B-52H bomber aircraft at Tinker Air Force Base.

I’m particularly concerned that section 526 could limit the diversity and supply of fuel for our nation’s Air Force and other military branches. Our military could be forced to obtain a greater percentage of petroleum from unstable regions of the world, endangering our ability to quickly and economically obtain much-needed fuel to conduct operations vital to the defense of our nation.

The effects of this legislation could increase fuel prices for our military, thus reducing our ability to maintain, reset and modernize our forces. At a time when our troops are involved in two large-scale foreign conflicts, our military must have the flexibility to secure and develop alternative sources of fuel.

Impeach (Someone) Rally

A Tulsa Peace and Impeachment Candelight Vigil was held outside U.S. Senator Jim Inhofe's office in Tulsa. The event was planned to coordinate with a national 5 Years Too Many protest,

...To mark the 5th anniversary of the U.S. invasion of Iraq in as powerful a way as possible. We believe that the activities United for Peace and Justice is organizing and supporting -- the Winter Soldier hearings, mass nonviolent direct action in Washington DC, and local actions all around the country -- have the potential to make a powerful statement ... but only with your participation and support.

Protesters were instructed to bring comfortable clothes, candles and matches, signs (optional) and to expect lots of people of like minds, a giant puppet Cheney, a banner drop, and Impeach-me George.

According to the event sign-up page, and as of this morning, fifteen of the hoped-for 100,000 attendees registered...about twenty-five were present while OKPNS was there. The video below is also here on YouTube.

Inhofe: Look . . . This Is What We've Done In Oklahoma, and You're Going to Have All These States Doing It'

The Tulsa World is reporting that U.S. Senator Jim Inhofe (R-OK) is using Oklahoma's HB 1804, anti-illegal immigration legislation, as a lever in Washington D.C.:

First of all, I think it should not be done locally...It should be done at the national level, but their (Oklahomans') action is helping to force us into action.

KTEN.com also reports:

Inhofe and other Republican senators are proposing 15 individual bills ranging from making English the national language to mandatory sentences for people in the country illegally and setting a deadline to build a fence on the nation's border.

Inhofe is apparently not swayed by naysayers like Dan Boren, who believes the bill will be irrelevant after the presidential elections, like Tom Price, who wants to show Oklahomans "A Better Way," like the U.S. and OK State Chambers which are suing based on the Constitutionality, or like citizens of Oklahoma and neighboring states who are disappointed with the lack of enforcement and lack of results seen so far since the legislation has become law.

Inhofe, says, as quoted in the McCarville Report yesterday, he believes the doubters should wait, and "at least give us a chance."

Tar Creek Buy Out

Recently, the Federal Government announced 18-month moratorium on federal loan payments for Picher and Cardin in the Tar Creek community.

According to U.S. Senator Jim Inhofe (R-OK), the EPA is now planning to buy out homes in the Tar Creek community:

The new plan would apparently end the need for asking for more money each year to allow the EPA to continue buying out homes in the area. Last year money was held up because of debates over passing spending bills in Congress.

The Tulsa World reports:

Oklahoma's existing trust [will be used] to complete the voluntary buyout for residents of the Tar Creek Superfund site and estimated the costs of that three-year goal at $42 million.

That put the total price tag for what has been termed the final cleanup plan for Tar Creek at about $167 million, which is on top of the nearly $150 million already spent at the site in Ottawa County.

The Joplin Globe quotes Inhofe:

This announcement marks landmark progress for the people living in the area of the Tar Creek Superfund site. The EPA’s latest remediation plan not only addresses necessary clean up of soil and water contamination from chat piles and wastes at the site, it also announces the completion of relocation assistance for the residents living in the Tar Creek communities.

Feds give Tar Creek a Break

The Tulsa World is reporting:

U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe on Tuesday announced an 18-month moratorium on federal loan payments for two Tar Creek communities whose ability to make the payments is being hampered by the ongoing buyout.

The Oklahoma Republican said the moratorium should relieve pressure on Picher and Cardin to make the monthly payments on the water infrastructure loans.

Inhofe said the moratorium was approved by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Rural Development Office.

According to information provided by the senator's office, Picher's loan is for $800,000...Cardin's USDA loan is for $300,000. more)

Brad Henry is pleased:

Many families who had lived in danger now have a chance on a new life in a safer place, thanks to this unprecedented federal-state project...We've made dramatic progress in a very short time, but we will not rest until our work is completed.

Slatecard: A Republican Fundraising Answer to Democrat ActBlue

ActBlue has been the online clearing house for Democratic fundraising since 2004. Through this service,
ActBlue is a Federal PAC that enables anyone — individuals, local groups, and national organizations — to fundraise for the Democratic candidates of their choice. Launched in June 2004, ActBlue created and deployed the next generation of online fundraising technology, and has raised over $37 million for Democratic candidates and committees.
Now, there is a Republican counterpart, called Slatecard. I had an opportunity to watch a Slatecard demonstration by co-founder, David All this weekend at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Washington D.C., and found the service very easy and actually fun to use.
Slatecard...acts as a "conduit" to raise money online to help Republican candidates for federal office in compliance with the Federal Election Campaign Act (FECA). It is no secret that Democrats are far ahead of Republicans in converting their online presence to offline support. One website which the Left has used effectively since 2004, is ActBlue.com (ActBlue PAC), a site which provides a tool for activists and committees to raise funds for the candidates and causes they support. In fact, millions of dollars have been raised through the site since 2004. It is our hope that Slatecard will level the playing field for Republican candidates and causes by providing an innovative platform for use by the Right kind of activists.
Future plans include:
Our utility is available for use by all candidates running for a Republican federal office and we hope to make this service available to state and local candidates where possible in the near future. Using a commercial vendor to handle our transactions, we are leveraging some of the lowest available rates on the market, which means that by contributing to candidates through Slatecard.com PAC, a larger percentage of the donation will actually end up going to the candidate. Soon, we will work to integrate with PayPal to offer more options to our users.
There is even a new "Causes," section. To see how this works in Oklahoma, I went to the "directory," then filtered by "Senate," and "Oklahoma."

Photobucket

As you can see, Senators Inhofe and Coburn are just getting started on this site. Eventually, Slatecard plans to have pages for the State House and Senate and City officials as well. To find out more, go to Slatecard, or visit the Slatecard Blog.

Quote of the Day: "Uhh, Maybe I Was a Little Off..."

From the Election Advantage blog:
"While the Sooner Poll which put Inhofe ahead by 40 points last month may be a little too generous to the Senator, it does make me think I may have overstated Inhofe's vulnerability. State Sen. Andrew Rice (D) is a game challenger, and his fundraising has been very good, but now he has to deal with a primary opponent in State Sen. Joe Sweeden." Read more predictions???! :D

Update: Boy Wonder Is Not Even Close!!!!!!

It was the greatest thing reading the Tulsa World poll this morning. State Senator Andrew Rice the Democrats Lone Ranger is just that, alone in his bid to unseat our states senior Senator. Who would have imagined Senator Inhofe trouncing over the Boy Wonder? Who would imagine nearly half of the Democrats polled voting for Senator Inhofe? Well the Rice campaign sure didn't think so. OKPNS knows that Senator Inhofe no matter how much liberals hate him, stands up for the ordinary man and woman.

Results from Oklahoma pollster SoonerPoll.com released this morning in the Tulsa World show Senator Inhofe in a strong position in the 2008 election.

“Sixty percent of those surveyed favored Inhofe over Rice, with just 19 percent going for the young Democrat and 21 percent undecided. Inhofe was the pick of three of every four Republicans surveyed and nearly half the Democrats.

Rice, meanwhile, had the support of only 28 percent of his own party. “

Analysis

Primary Election Possible: A steady drumbeat of internet forums and blogs have carried the message that State Senator Andrew Rice, right now the lone Democrat opponent to Senator Inhofe, is potentially facing a primary challenge. Many outspoken Democrat party insiders believe a primary is wise so a more moderate candidate who appeals to a larger segment of Oklahomans can win the nomination. As the Tulsa World story indicates, Rice would be very vulnerable to a serious primary challenger: “Rice, meanwhile, had the support of only 28 percent of his own party.”

Inhofe Suggests Mediation In Poultry-Waste Squabble

U.S. Senator Jim Inhofe says an amendment that he proposed addressing the issue of poultry waste in Oklahoma has been included in a key piece of farm legislation. The Tulsa World reports from its Washington bureau that the Oklahoma Republican says he hopes his amendment will help the parties involved in an ongoing dispute over the issue to find common ground.
The $286 billion farm bill passed yesterday on a 79-14 vote, with both Inhofe and Oklahoma's other senator, Republican Tom Coburn, voting for the bill. The bill now goes to a House-Senate conference committee. President Bush has threatened to veto the legislation, saying it costs too much.

Update: Boy Wonder Plans On Using The McCaskill, Webb, Tester Model

State Senator Andrew "Boy Wonder" Rice the lone announced Democrat challenger to Senator Jim Inhofe discussed his 77 County strategy for beating Senator Inhofe.
We have a 77 county strategy like the national 50 state strategy....we have counties that will be tough to win, but we can increase our numbers in those counties, like Webb, MaCaskill, and Tester did in 06. We can and are raising the money. - State Senator Andrew Rice

The liveblog was nothing more than a bunch of pot smoking tree huggers (Mostly out of state and in San Fransisco) patting the Boy Wonder on the back as a fellow liberal and imbecile.

Most Oklahomans can see that A) Global Warming is a hoax B) We have two of the best Senators in the country C) Andrew Rice is wasting a lot of peoples hard earned time and money. Andrew Rice represents the worst of the Democrat party and it would be a detriment to Oklahoma if he is elected to the US Senate. Could you imagine a world with Hillary Care or Obama Care? What sense does it make to tax cigarettes if that is being used to pay for SCHIP? This is the type of logic that the Boy Wonder represents. He is nothing more than a Nancy Pelosi Democrat. Just take a look below at why Andrew Rice shouldn't be elected and why we should keep Jim Inhofe.

Sen. Inhofe: Look Closer at Global Warming "Solutions"

By Sen. James Inhofe
Special to Roll Call
Just in time for the United Nations Climate Change Conference, the chairman of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee has scheduled a business meeting to consider legislation that seeks to impose mandatory global warming "solutions" on the American people. The global warming cap-and-trade bill (S. 2191) introduced by Sens. Joe Lieberman (ID-Conn.) and John Warner (R-Va.) seeks to regulate carbon dioxide by creating a whole new federal bureaucracy. In moving the bill out of committee, supporters of the bill are anxious for a symbolic "victory" just in time for their U.N. trip to Bali.
There is a better way for Congress to legislate. The American people deserve an open and honest debate on the merits of any proposed climate change legislation, especially considering that mandatory carbon cap-and-trade legislation will impose the largest tax increase ever in the U.S. without any measurable climate benefits. Consideration of the Lieberman-Warner bill, The Wall Street Journal reported in a Nov. 5 article, comes at a time when a "winter-heating crisis looms."
The consequences of higher fuel bills for poor Americans can be devastating. High energy bills were cited as one of the two main reasons for homelessness, according to a 2006 survey of Colorado homeless families with children. Because of the significant economic harm imposed on our country by this bill, I joined Sens. George Voinovich (R-Ohio) and John Barrasso (R-Wyo.) in requesting a full economic analysis by the Environmental Protection Agency and the Energy Information Administration before we proceed to a vote. Not knowing the extent of the economic damage resulting from this bill before we vote would be irresponsible. Read more...

Dems Wishful Thinking

OKLAHOMA. While Republicans initially chuckled about State Senator Andrew Rice's (D) challenge to US Senator Jim Inhofe (R), they are now seemingly taking his challenge more seriously. How else to explain the rather desperate attack site launched by the Oklahoma Republican Party: andrewricesweb.com. The heavy-handed GOP site accuses Rice of being everything from an ACLU'er, to a Sierra Club supporter, to being "supported by ... Jeanine Garofalo", to Rice possibly even being an "Italian Communist" (trust me, I'm not making this up!). In circa 1950 style, the site also features a communist hammer-and-sickle flag flying above Rice's head. So, why are they viciously attacking someone they've spent months saying is "no threat" to Inhofe? Read more...
