Monday, January 15, 2007 Caucus Meetings to Begin for GOP
TULSA, Okla. (AP) Oklahoma Republicans are preparing to chart the course of their part for the coming year.
Republicans will hold precinct caucus meetings Tuesday night, the first step in selecting delegates to county and state conventions.
State G-O-P Chairman Tom Daxon is expected to be challenged for the job by his predecessor, Gary Jones of Lawton, and perhaps a candidate from Oklahoma County.
Opposition to Daxon surfaced during the 2006 campaign, when some lawmakers began operating their campaigns out of the Oklahoma County Republican Party.
Oklahoma Ethics Commission filings show legislators' campaign funds contributed more than 110-thousand dollars to the Oklahoma County G-O-P in the weeks leading up to the 2006 general election.
