Thursday, November 09, 2006 Evenly Divided Sooner Senate Looks to Future

OKLAHOMA CITY -- With an unprecedented 24-24 party split in the Senate a reality on Wednesday, the GOP leader trotted into the Democratic president pro tem's office and split it down the middle with a piece of tape.
"I get the couch; you get the refrigerator," Democrat Mike Morgan told Republican Glenn Coffee.
On a more serious note, the two leaders and newly elected Democratic Lt. Gov. Jari Askins, who constitutionally may break tie votes in the Senate, started to ponder the question of how to run government with a house -- in this case the Senate -- divided.
Morgan, D-Stillwater, said he and Coffee will be getting together soon. Read more...
