Inhofe Bill Backs Medals for Code Talkers

By JIM MYERS World Washington Bureau WASHINGTON -- The U.S. Senate has passed legislation by U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe, R-Okla., to award congressional medals to American Indians who served as code talkers during World Wars I and II. An Inhofe spokesman said Thursday that the senator hopes his bill wins approval in the House and is sent on to the president for his signature. Passed in the Senate by unanimous consent, the bill identifies by name a number of American Indians who served as code talkers, including those from Oklahoma who are no longer living.
